On 7 October 2025, Dr. Wiparat De-Ong, Executive Director of the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, together with NRCT executives, academic advisory committee, and NRCT officials, attended the closing ceremony of STS forum 2025 – The 22nd Annual Meeting, held from 5–7 October 2025 at the Kyoto International Conference Center in Kyoto, Japan.
The meeting brought together more than 1,500 leaders in science, technology, and policy from over 80 countries, as well as representatives from international organizations, to exchange views and collectively advance science and technology toward a sustainable future society.
At the closing ceremony, Hiroshi Komiyama delivered a concluding statement summarizing the key outcomes of the three-day meeting. He underscored the critical role of science and technology in addressing global challenges, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), which is transforming all sectors of society—from healthcare and education to public administration. He emphasized the need to strengthen social infrastructure, promote lifelong learning skills, and advance robust data governance to ensure that AI becomes a driving force for equity, transparency, and sustainability at the global level.
He also called upon all countries to accelerate efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to transition energy, production, and consumption systems toward more sustainable pathways in response to the escalating impacts of climate change worldwide. Furthermore, he highlighted the vital role of science diplomacy in fostering international cooperation amid rising geopolitical tensions, the spread of misinformation, and intensifying competition in advanced technologies.
The next STS forum 2026 is scheduled to take place from 4–6 October 2026 in Kyoto, Japan, to continue advancing collaboration in harnessing the power of science and technology to build a better future for humanity.
