Anyang, Henan Province, People’s Republic of China, September 19, 2026 — The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) led a delegation from the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), together with Thai archaeological experts, on a scientific archaeological field visit to the Yinxu National Archaeological Park in Anyang, Henan Province, People’s Republic of China. The visit formed part of the China–Thailand Seminar on Science-Based Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Preservation, jointly organized by CASS and NRCT.
Dr. Wiparat De-ong, Executive Director of NRCT, led a delegation comprising NRCT executives, distinguished experts, and Thai archaeological specialists to explore the archaeological remains of the Shang Dynasty civilization. The fieldwork was guided by Mr. Wang Di, Mr. Niu Shishan, and Mr. Wei Qingchao, experts in scientific archaeology and professors at the Institute of Archaeology, CASS.
The delegation conducted fieldwork at the Yinxu Royal Tombs, an important component of the broader Yinxu archaeological site. The site provides valuable archaeological evidence of the Shang Dynasty civilization, which flourished more than 3,000 years ago. Discoveries in the area include artifacts, tools, weapons, and bronze vessels, offering insights into the social structure, technological development, and ritual practices of ancient Chinese society.
The field visit provided the Thai delegation with valuable practical experience in applying scientific approaches to archaeological research. It also highlighted opportunities to integrate archaeology, science and technology, history, and cultural studies to advance archaeological research in Thailand. In addition, the visit offered insights into approaches to cultural heritage conservation, exhibition, and knowledge dissemination.
The knowledge and experience gained from this activity are expected to support future research collaboration and cultural heritage conservation between Thailand and China, further strengthening the longstanding partnership between NRCT and CASS.
