Outstanding Achievement! Thai Inventors from Thammasat University and Mae Fah Luang University Win Top Honors at ITEX 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), extends its heartfelt congratulations to Thai inventors and researchers for bringing pride to Thailand through their remarkable achievements at “The 37th International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX 2026),” held from 18–20 May 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
It is with great pleasure that Thai inventors secured two of the exhibition’s most prestigious special awards:
ITEX 2026 THE BEST INVENTION AWARD – International
This award was presented to the invention entitled “UroHPV Sense” by Associate Professor Dr. Areechun Sotthibundhu and her team from Thammasat University.
UroHPV Sense is an electrochemical biosensor designed to detect HPV L1 protein in urine samples for non-invasive cervical cancer screening. The innovation offers a more accessible alternative to conventional sample collection methods by utilizing urine specimens, thereby increasing screening participation. The technology also has strong potential for development into a Point-of-Care testing platform suitable for community healthcare settings and resource-limited areas.
Best Green Invention 2026
The award was granted to the invention entitled “From Waste to Comfort: All-Cellulose Thermal and Acoustic Insulation Panels Made from Recycled Textiles” by Associate Professor Dr. Nattakan Soykeabkaew and her team from Mae Fah Luang University.
This innovative insulation material is produced from textile waste and recycled fabrics that are transformed into All-Cellulose Composite materials through an environmentally friendly manufacturing process. The innovation adds value to textile waste, supports the circular economy, and promotes the adoption of sustainable green building materials.
In addition, two Thai inventions received Special Prizes from international innovation organizations:
• The Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA), Republic of Korea, presented a special award to the invention entitled “Fender Plus: A Novel Formulated Mixture for Aedes Mosquito Control” by Associate Professor Dr. Nutchaya Kumrungsee and her team from Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi.
• The Indonesian Invention and Innovation Promotion Association (INNOPA), Indonesia, presented a special award to the invention entitled “Innovative Dietary Supplement: Self-Emulsifying Dill Extract Powder” by Associate Professor Dr. Catheleeya Mekjaruskul and her team from Mahasarakham University.
These outstanding accomplishments demonstrate the creativity, dedication, and capability of Thai inventors in developing high-quality innovations with strong practical applications and global competitiveness. NRCT remains committed to supporting and advancing award-winning inventions and innovations toward wider utilization and commercialization, while creating opportunities for technology adoption that enhances national development and improves the quality of life for society.
