The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), led a delegation of Thai inventors and researchers to participate in the Taiwan Innotech Expo 2026 (TIE 2026), held from September 17 to 19, 2026, at the Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall in Taipei, Taiwan. The Thai delegation achieved international recognition, bringing pride to the country through its outstanding inventions and innovations.
The NRCT-led delegation received special awards from international organizations for the following innovations:
1. “GreenPhyto-Extraction Technology Innovation to Add Value to Plant Resources into High-Efficiency Bioactive Compounds for Cosmetics, Using Elaeocarpus grandiflorus as a Prototype Plant”
Developed by Dr. Chonticha Sika and Ms. Natthakan Wongsangsup from the Institute of Beauty and Health Science Research Co., Ltd., this innovation received a Special Prize from the Korea Invention Promotion Association of the Republic of Korea.
The innovation is a plant-based active compound extraction platform that integrates green extraction principles with advanced extraction technologies. By combining high-frequency ultrasound with heat under pressure, the platform enhances the release of active compounds from plant cells, minimizes resource waste, and supports environmentally friendly production processes.
The technology can be scaled up from laboratory research to industrial production. It has been applied to the development of high-value active ingredients from Elaeocarpus grandiflorus. According to the project description, these ingredients demonstrate antioxidant properties comparable to those of vitamin C and the ability to regulate melanin production through multiple mechanisms. The resulting ingredients have potential for further development into commercial cosmetic products.
2. “BioCircular Grow™: Circular Biostimulant Innovation Enhancing Microbial Efficiency from Agricultural Waste for Soil Rehabilitation and Sustainable Agriculture”
Developed by Assistant Professor Dr. Natthapong Chanchula and his team from the Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR), this innovation received an award from the Indonesian Invention and Innovation Promotion Association of Indonesia.
BioCircular Grow™ is a biostimulant developed from agricultural waste, including corn cobs and husks. It uses selected microbial strains to accelerate decomposition and transform agricultural residues into products that support soil rehabilitation. The innovation helps reduce open-field burning and associated PM2.5 emissions, adds value to agricultural waste, and promotes sustainable, low-carbon agriculture.
A total of 11 Thai agencies and institutions participated in TIE 2026 and collectively received 9 Gold Medals, 10 Silver Medals, and 16 Bronze Medals. The participating institutions were:
- Thammasat University
- Chulabhorn Royal Academy
- Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR)
- Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT)
- Institute of Beauty and Health Science Research Co., Ltd.
- Montfort College
- Princess Chulabhorn Science High School, Nakhon Si Thammarat
- Princess Chulabhorn Science High School, Phitsanulok
- Princess Chulabhorn Science High School, Phetchaburi
