On July 14, 2026, Dr Wiparat De-ong, Director of the National Research Council of Thailand, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, was honoured with an invitation from the French Embassy in Thailand to attend the celebration of French National Day. On this occasion, Dr. Wiparat De-ong extended congratulations to H.E. Mr. Jean-Claude POIMBOEUF, the French Ambassador to Thailand, and his spouse, Madame Mariko POIMBOEUF, on the occasion of French National Day at the Eastin Grand Hotel, Phaya Thai, Bangkok.
H.E. Mr. Jean-Claude POIMBOEUF, the French Ambassador to Thailand, said, “I am very pleased to welcome everyone to celebrate with the French people on this important occasion, an opportunity to celebrate French values. Recently, following the official visit of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X) and Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana to the Republic of France, the first official visit since the visit of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit in 1960, nothing reflects the strong relationship between Thailand and France better than such a high-level royal visit.”
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul also offered congratulations on the occasion of French National Day, stating, “On behalf of the Thai government and people, we extend our best wishes to the French people on this important day. Furthermore, 2026 marks the 170th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and France, tracing back more than 340 years to the time of King Narai the Great.” On this occasion, we would like to thank France for welcoming His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen during their official visit, and to express our admiration for the La Mode en Majesté exhibition, under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, in Paris, which reflects the sustainable fusion of Thai craftsmanship and French creativity.
July 14th of every year is considered France's National Day. It is significant as it commemorates the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789, when the French people liberated the Bastille, which was used to imprison political prisoners. This marked the beginning of the French Revolution, leading to the establishment of a republic based on the motto "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity."
