NRCT Showcases Thai Research and Innovation at Thailand Showcase 2026 in London, Promoting Research-Based Products to Global Markets

The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), joined forces with the Royal Thai Embassy in London to showcase Thai research and innovation at the Thai Festival: Thailand Showcase 2026, held from 17–19 July 2026 at Potters Fields Park, London, United Kingdom. Organized under the theme “Creative Life and Creative Heartbeat,” the festival highlighted Thailand’s rich cultural heritage, creativity, and innovation to an international audience.
Representing the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), Ms. Sirinporn Deawtrakool, Deputy Executive Director of NRCT, attended the event on behalf of Dr. Wiparat De-ong, Executive Director of NRCT. She presented NRCT-supported research-based products to festival visitors. The NRCT delegation was warmly welcomed by His Excellency Mr. Nadhavathna Krishnamra, Ambassador of Thailand to the United Kingdom.
A highlight of the NRCT exhibition was a collection of handwoven textiles made from sugarcane leaf fibers dyed with natural pigments, developed through an NRCT-funded research project led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sarun Jankaew of Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon. The innovation transforms agricultural waste into high-value textile products by combining local wisdom with environmentally friendly production technologies. The products were showcased and offered for sale at the festival, providing an opportunity to introduce Thai research-based products to international consumers and expand their presence in global markets.
Thai Festival: Thailand Showcase 2026 featured a variety of activities celebrating Thailand's culture, creativity, and soft power, including a screening of the documentary The Recipe of Lasting Love, Thai culinary demonstrations by Chariya Khattiyot, winner of MasterChef UK 2023, traditional Thai cultural performances, Muay Thai demonstrations and interactive workshops, and prize draws sponsored by Thai Airways and Melati Beach Resort & Spa, Koh Samui.
NRCT's participation reflects its commitment to promoting Thai research and innovation on the international stage while connecting research excellence, technology, and creativity with economic and social development. The festival also provided valuable opportunities to expand international market access, strengthen partnerships, and enhance the global competitiveness of Thailand's research-based products.
