The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), together with a delegation of young Thai researchers comprising STS forum Young Leaders 2026 by NRCT, STS forum Young Leaders Alumni, and NRCT Young Leaders 2026 programs, participated in a knowledge exchange visit to Knowledge Capital in Osaka, Japan.

The delegation was welcomed by the Knowledge Capital management team, led by Mr. Takuya Nomura, General Producer of Knowledge Capital.

Dr. Wiparat De-ong, Executive Director of the National Research Council of Thailand, stated that Knowledge Capital is an important component of Japan’s innovation ecosystem. Its management approach demonstrates how an environment can be developed to facilitate learning among people from diverse backgrounds and encourage collaborative learning and innovation. Knowledge Capital also maintains extensive networks at both national and international levels.

This visit provided a valuable opportunity for young Thai researchers to broaden their perspectives and gain inspiration for developing new research ideas and innovations, while exploring ways to further develop research outcomes for practical applications and societal benefits.

During the visit, the delegation learned about Knowledge Capital’s concepts and operations through a presentation and discussion led by Mr. Keisuke Innami, Chief Assistant to General Producer. He introduced the key concept of Knowledge Capital as an innovation and learning space that brings together people from different fields, including researchers, businesses, creative professionals, and the general public, to exchange ideas, knowledge, and experiences and jointly develop new ideas and innovations.

Knowledge Capital has been developed as an environment that connects human creativity with technology. It provides a range of spaces and activities that facilitate interaction among universities, research institutions, the private sector, developers, and the public. These activities provide opportunities to present, demonstrate, test, and exchange views on research, technologies, and innovations, supporting the further development and application of knowledge.

In terms of international collaboration, Knowledge Capital Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with 22 organizations and institutions overseas, including organizations from Thailand, such as the National Innovation Agency (NIA) and the Creative Economy Agency (CEA).

The facilities and activities at Knowledge Capital demonstrate an approach to managing innovation spaces, fostering an environment conducive to the exchange of ideas, and strengthening connections among research, technology, the business sector, and the public.

The knowledge and experience exchange was part of NRCT’s efforts to enhance the capabilities of young researchers by providing opportunities to learn from international organizations with experience in developing science, technology, and innovation ecosystems. The activity also supported the development of international research networks and provided new perspectives that could contribute to the further development of research and innovation in Thailand.
