NRCT and STS forum Highlight the Role of AI in the Transition to Clean Energy and a Modern Society at the “STS forum Japan–Thailand Symposium 2026” Panel Discussions

On 24 April 2026, the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), continued to advance an international panel discussion held at the World Ballroom, Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld. The session focused on transformative AI technologies and their wide-ranging impacts on the energy sector and society at large.

The event featured an important panel discussion on the use of AI to accelerate the transition toward clean and environmentally friendly energy. Experts exchanged views under the topic “The Role of AI in Greener Energy Transition.”

The panelists included Mrs. Orn-anutt Suthsa-ngiam, Director of Information and Communication Technology Center, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy; Dr. Tomohiko Kato, Chief Representative of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO); and Professor Dr. Akira Igata, Project Lecturer at The University of Tokyo. The session was moderated by Professor Dr. Komgrit Leksakul, Vice President of Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI)

The session concluded with a discussion on social issues and the role of AI in modern life, under the topic “The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Modern Society.” The panel featured distinguished speakers from Thailand, Japan, and Saudi Arabia, including Dr. Fahad Algnear, General Director of International Partnerships, King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), Saudi Arabia; Dr. Soontaree Songserm, Senior Executive Vice President of the Big Data Institute (Public Organization), Thailand; Professor Kenji Suzuki, Director of the BioMedical AI Research Unit, Institute of Science Tokyo; Dr. Yu Hiraoka, MD, CEO of GramEye Inc., The University of Osaka; and Mr. Norihiko Ishihara, President and CEO of DataSection Inc. The session was moderated by Dr. Pranpreya Sriwannawit Lundberg, Senior Director of International Policy Partnership, Office of the National Higher Education Science Research and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO), Thailand.

The discussion highlighted that AI is not merely a technology, but an important tool for driving energy sustainability and transforming social structures. The collaboration between NRCT and the STS forum on this occasion will help open opportunities for Thai researchers and industry stakeholders to access global knowledge and advanced technologies, in preparation for a future smart society. It also represents a significant step toward strengthening collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and the business sector in Thailand and Japan, enabling the application of science and technology to sustainably enhance the quality of life and economic development in both countries. The event will be held from 23–25 April 2026.
