NRCT and Ravensbourne University London Explore “Creative Tech Research” Collaboration to Advance Creative Innovation

On 14 May 2026, the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), initiated discussions on the theme of “Creative Tech Research” with Ravensbourne University London, exploring opportunities to leverage science, research, and innovation (STI) to promote the development of Thailand’s creative innovation ecosystem.

The NRCT delegation was led by Dr. Wiparat De-Ong, Executive Director of NRCT, together with Ms. Sirinporn Deawtrakool, Deputy Executive Director of NRCT, Associate Professor Dr. Namfon Laistrooglai of the Thai Arts and Crafts Development Association (TACDA), and accompanying officials. The delegation met with the leadership team of Ravensbourne University London, a globally recognized institution specializing in design, digital media, and the creative industries. The meeting was attended by Mr. Jon Kingsbury, Vice Chancellor, along with senior executives and faculty members, including Mr. Andy Rees, Executive Dean for the School of Design, Media and Creative Industries; Mr. Chris Chandler, Head of Media, Film, TV & Music; Mr. Geraint Cunnick, Course Leader of MA Digital Photography; and Mr. Mark Hudson, Course Leader of BA Graphic Design.

Dr. Wiparat De-Ong stated that NRCT is committed to utilizing science, research, and innovation as key drivers of Thailand’s creative economy. Ravensbourne University London is internationally recognized for its excellence in product design, digital creativity, and creative technology. NRCT sees significant opportunities to collaborate with the university in harnessing its expertise to develop interdisciplinary research and innovation that can contribute to the growth of Thailand’s digital content sector, creative industries, and innovation-driven economy.

She further emphasized that MHESI places strong importance on developing a highly skilled workforce, integrating cultural capital with technology, and enhancing Thailand’s soft power through research and innovation. These priorities align closely with the potential areas of cooperation between NRCT and Ravensbourne University London.

During the discussions, both parties explored opportunities for collaboration in human capital development and international capacity building through expert and personnel exchange programs, joint research projects, and the establishment of creative laboratories (Creative Labs). These initiatives aim to support the translation of research outcomes into commercial applications and generate greater economic value through innovation.

The proposed collaboration between NRCT and Ravensbourne University London represents an important step toward strengthening international research and innovation networks. It will provide Thai researchers, innovators, and creative professionals with opportunities to learn from a world-class institution while advancing the integration of knowledge, technology, and Thailand’s rich cultural assets into globally competitive creative innovations.

Through this partnership, NRCT aims to further reinforce Thailand’s position as a regional hub for creative innovation and to support the sustainable growth of the country’s creative economy through research-driven development.
