The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, led by Dr. Wiparat De-Ong, Executive Director of NRCT, in collaboration with the Science and Technology in Society forum (STS forum), led by Professor Sadayuki Tsuchiya, Executive Director of STS forum, held a meeting to advance cooperation in science, technology, and innovation between Thailand and Japan. The meeting also focused on preparations for the STS forum Annual Meeting, scheduled for October 2026 in Kyoto, Japan. The meeting was attended by Ms. Saowanee Mungsujaritkarn and Ms. Sirinporn Deawtrakool, Deputy Executive Directors of NRCT, along with NRCT executives and distinguished experts, including Professor Dr. Sanong Ekgasit from Chulalongkorn University and Associate Professor Dr. Anak Khantachawana from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, as well as other NRCT executives.
On this occasion, Dr. Wiparat De-Ong highlighted the significance and background of the STS forum Japan–Thailand Symposium 2026, noting that it serves as an important mechanism for strengthening cooperation in science, technology, and innovation between Thailand and Japan, as well as within international networks. She further emphasized that the symposium builds upon the role of the STS forum as a global platform that brings together leaders from government, the private sector, and academia to exchange perspectives and shape the direction of technology development for a sustainable society.
In addition, Professor Sadayuki Tsuchiya, Executive Director of the STS forum, proposed approaches for building collaborative networks between Thai and Japanese universities, with a particular emphasis on lower secondary school students, who form an important foundation for the country’s future development.
This discussion marked a significant step in strengthening cooperation between Thailand and Japan. NRCT will serve as the main funding agency, while the STS forum will act as a key facilitator in supporting collaborative activities. This partnership is expected to lead to the development of knowledge and innovation that will have long-term positive impacts on the economy and society.
