NRCT Attends STS forum Council Meeting at National Academy of Sciences (NAS), Washington, D.C., United States

On 14 January 2026, Dr. Wiparat De-Ong, Executive Director of the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), attended the Council Meeting of the Science and Technology in Society (STS) forum at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C., United States of America, in her capacity as a Council Member of the STS forum.

The meeting was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Hiroshi Komiyama, Chairman of the STS forum, and the participants were welcomed by Dr. Marcia McNutt, President of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), USA.

Participants in the STS forum Council Meeting included senior executives and leaders from science and technology organizations across various regions, including:

and other leading organizations.

On this occasion, Dr. Wiparat stated that the STS forum 2025 was organized efficiently, both in terms of planning and implementation. The forum served as an important platform for representatives from government, academia, industry, business, and international organizations to exchange comprehensive perspectives on pressing global challenges.

She also emphasized the importance of supporting young researchers, who will play a crucial role in addressing global challenges in the future. Dr. Wiparat proposed the development of platforms and activities under the STS forum framework to promote knowledge exchange between world-renowned scientists and emerging researchers. Such initiatives would help inspire the next generation, facilitate the transfer of experience, and sustainably cultivate future scientific leaders.

Furthermore, participants agreed that the STS forum plays a significant international role in connecting leaders in science, technology, policy, and society to collectively address key global issues, including artificial intelligence (AI), rapid technological transformation, climate change, energy, health, and sustainable development.

The STS forum is a high-level global conference on science and technology, attracting more than 1,000 participants annually. The STS forum 2026 – 23rd Annual Meeting is scheduled to be held from 4–6 October 2026 in Kyoto, Japan.
