Data and Indicators for Understanding Thailand’s R&D Landscape
The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) conducts an annual national survey of research and development (R&D) expenditure and personnel to provide reliable data on Thailand’s research and development landscape.
The survey follows the Frascati Manual of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), an internationally recognized standard for collecting and reporting R&D statistics. This enables R&D data to be collected and presented using a consistent approach and supports comparison with other countries.
What Does the R&D Index Cover?
ð R&D Expenditure
Data on research and development expenditure in Thailand, including expenditure by sector and other relevant classifications.
ðĨ R&D Personnel
Data on researchers and other personnel engaged in research and development activities.
ðŽ Researchers and R&D Personnel
Information on researchers and R&D personnel, including both headcount and Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) measures.
ðĒ Business R&D
Data on research and development expenditure undertaken by the business enterprise sector.
ð GERD and R&D Indicators
Key indicators used to understand Thailand’s overall level of investment and capacity in research and development.
ð Research and Related Indicators
Additional R&D-related information and reports, including research publications, intellectual property, and national ranking information.

The Survey and Analysis Report on Thailand’s Research and Experimental Development Expenditure and Personnel 2024 - 2025
The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) continuously conducts an annual national survey of Research and Experimental Development (R&D) expenditure and personnel by following international standard Frascati Manguidelines of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). In addition, the NRCT has been entrusted with an important mission complying the Administration Act of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation B.E. 2562 (2019) (SRI dicators formulation)
The Survey and Analysis Report on Research and Experimental Development (R&D) Expenditure and on Personnel is divided into 2 groups consist of:
The 1st group of the report (Data analysis) is divided into 4 parts :

(2) Trends in Thailand’s R&D Expenditure and Personnel, 2015-2025
(3) Comparative Study of R&D Expenditure and Personnel in Thailand and Foreign Countries under the Framework of IMD World Competitiveness Ranking
(4) Article (Tom Yum Kung Crisis (1997)/Covid-19 Crisis (2020) affected R&D Expenditure).
