NRCT Research and Innovation Funding

The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) supports research and innovation through funding programmes that respond to national priorities and contribute to Thailand’s economic, social, technological, and environmental development.

NRCT provides funding opportunities for researchers, universities, research institutions, government agencies, and other eligible organizations. The funding supports both the development of research capacity and the generation of knowledge, research, and innovation that can be applied to policy, industry, communities, public services, and society.

What Does NRCT Fund?

NRCT’s funding programmes cover a wide range of research and innovation areas that contribute to national development.

🔬 Researcher and Innovator Development

Supporting researchers and innovators at different stages of their careers, including emerging researchers and graduate students. Funding also supports research that strengthens academic knowledge and Thailand’s research capacity.

🌾 Economy and Agriculture

Supporting research and innovation that strengthen economic competitiveness and the agricultural sector, including high-value agricultural products, improved production, value-added products and services, and solutions that benefit businesses and communities.

🤖 Technology and Industrial Development

Supporting research and development in advanced technologies and their application in industry and business, including advanced materials, bio-based industries, food technology, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, automation, and robotics.

👥 Society and Security

Supporting research that addresses social challenges and contributes to a safe, inclusive, and sustainable society. Areas include good governance, social values, violence prevention, road safety, humanities, and social sciences.

🌏 Natural Resources and Environment

Supporting research and innovation for the sustainable management of natural resources and the environment, including air pollution and PM2.5, climate change, renewable energy, the blue economy, and disaster management.

👴 Aging Society

Supporting research and innovation that respond to the needs of an aging society, including quality of life, social participation, products and services for older persons, and supportive living environments.

How NRCT Supports Research

NRCT’s role in research funding goes beyond providing financial support. NRCT develops funding frameworks and priorities, announces funding opportunities, receives and evaluates research proposals, and allocates funding in accordance with established criteria and procedures.

Through its funding programmes, NRCT connects research and innovation with national priorities and promotes the utilization of research findings for policy development, economic and social development, and the benefit of communities and the public.

Who Can Apply?

Researchers, universities, research institutions, government agencies, and other eligible organizations may apply for NRCT funding, subject to the qualifications, requirements, and conditions specified in each funding announcement.

How to Apply

The application process generally includes:

1. Explore Funding Opportunities
Review available funding programmes and research priorities.

2. Check Eligibility
Review the qualifications, requirements, and conditions for the relevant funding programme.

3. Prepare Your Proposal
Develop a research proposal in accordance with the specified guidelines and application requirements.

4. Submit through NRIIS
Submit the research proposal through the National Research and Innovation Information System (NRIIS) within the specified application period.
